The Windows installer is not code-signed yet. Windows shows a SmartScreen warning once. This is expected, and you can check the file with the checksum below.

  1. If you see Windows protected your PC, click More info.
  2. Click Run anyway, then Install.
  3. If your browser asks whether to keep the file, choose Keep.

Not sure which Mac you have? Open the Apple menu, then About This Mac. A Chip line means Apple silicon, which Munu supports. A Processor line means Intel, and there is no Intel Mac build.

What you need

  • Windows 10 or 11 on a 64-bit PC, or macOS 15 or newer on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer). There is no Intel Mac build, no Windows ARM build and no Linux version
  • An internet connection
  • An email address, to sign in with a code
  • A microphone and speakers or headphones, for voice
  • About 1 GB of free disk space

How installing works

Munu for Mac is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens normally. The Windows installer is not code-signed, so Windows shows a SmartScreen warning once. This is expected. Click More info, then Run anyway. You can check each file with its SHA-256 checksum on this page.

On Windows

  1. Open Munu-1.0.1-windows-x64-setup.exe.
  2. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway. If your browser asks whether to keep the file, choose Keep.
  3. Click Install. Munu installs for your user account only and never asks for administrator rights.
  4. Leave Launch Munu ticked and click Finish. Munu appears in the notification area near the clock.
  5. Follow the welcome window. Setup takes about three minutes.

On a Mac

  1. Open the .dmg file.
  2. Drag Munu onto Applications.
  3. Open Munu from your Applications folder. It lives in the menu bar at the top right, not in the Dock.
  4. Follow the welcome window and allow the microphone when macOS asks.

Checking the file

To check that a download was not changed, compare its SHA-256 checksum with the one above. On Windows, run Get-FileHash .\Munu-1.0.1-windows-x64-setup.exe in PowerShell. On a Mac, run shasum -a 256 Munu-1.0.1-macos-arm64.dmg in Terminal.

Updating

Download the new version and install it the same way. On a Mac, choose Replace when you drag Munu onto Applications. Your settings, notes and sign-in are kept.
