How it works

One request, start to finish

Scroll, and watch Munu hear its name, think, answer and get to work.

  1. 01 Asleep

    It waits for its name

Eyes closed, waiting for its name. The microphone is checked on this computer.

    Or type m, u, n, u on your keyboard.

  2. 02 Listening

    You say “Munu” and ask

“Munu, what’s on my list today?” Wake it and ask in one breath. This is the normal way to use it.

It hops when it hears its name, and its ears glow while it listens.

  3. 03 Thinking

    It looks in your notes

A small light circles its head while it works out the answer.

Your notes are plain Markdown files in a folder on your computer.

  4. 04 Speaking

    It answers out loud

Its smile moves with the words it says out loud.

Say “Munu, stop” and it goes quiet at once and drops what it was saying.

  5. 05 Hands

Move the pointer with your hand

Move your hand and the pointer follows it. Pinch thumb and index finger and let go quickly to click.

The camera is watched live on this computer to track your hands. Nothing from it is recorded or saved.

  6. 06 Jobs

Send it a job from your phone

Type an idea or attach a file in the Munu phone app. Munu starts the job on the computer you pick, and you watch a live job card.

It works freely, then stops before the final click. The card offers Allow once, Allow always and Deny.

  7. 07 Privacy

    What stays, and what leaves

Your notes, your keys and the camera stay on your computer.

Munu uses cloud AI models to think, hear and speak, so some things do leave your computer, only to do the job.

Get started

Start in three steps

  1. Download

Pick the installer for Windows 10 or 11, or for a Mac with Apple silicon. Both are on the download page.

  2. Install and open

Open the file and follow it. Windows may show one warning the first time. Setup takes about three minutes.

  3. Say hello

Sign in with your email, no card. Then say “Munu, what’s on my list today?” and it answers out loud.

The first time you open it, a welcome window asks for your name, the permissions, your microphone and speakers, how you say “Munu”, hand gestures and your email. Any check you skip can be done later in Settings.

Talking to it

Things you can say

Start with its name and say the rest in one go. When Munu ends with a question, you have about 15 seconds to answer without its name.

  • Munu, what’s on my list today?

Wakes it and asks in one breath. This is the normal way to use it.

  • Munu, open Spotify

Opens an app installed on this computer, by its name.

  • Munu, search for pizza dough

Opens a web search in your browser.

  • Munu, remember that the dentist moved to Friday

Saves it to your notes and brings it up later.

  • Munu, take a screenshot

Saves a full-size picture of the screen on your Desktop.

  • Munu, next song

Skips the song in whatever is playing.

  • Munu, stop

It goes quiet at once and drops what it was saying.

  • Munu, go to sleep

It sleeps until it hears its name again.

Hand control

Move the pointer with your hand

Turn on hand gestures and your webcam becomes a way to steer the computer. The video is read live on your computer to find your hands, and nothing from it is recorded or saved.

Jobs

Send it a job from your phone

Type an idea or attach a file in the Munu phone app. Munu starts the job on the computer you pick, with Claude Code, Codex or its own agent. You watch a live job card, and the full result and its files come back in the chat.

  • Start it anywhere

An idea or a file from your phone becomes a job on the computer you choose. A computer you pick is the one that runs it.

  • It asks before the final click

Munu works freely, then stops before Submit, Send, Pay, Buy, Delete, Publish or Place order. You see a screenshot with a box around the button, and your phone gets a push.

  • Take it back

Undo a finished job, also after a restart. Send new instructions to a job that is still running, from your phone or your computer.

What Munu asks before it acts

  • A final button, such as Send, Pay or Publish.
  • A delete for good outside the job folder. The card lists the files.
  • Spending money.
  • Sending as you: an email, a message or a post in your name.

The card offers Allow once, Allow always and Deny. If you do not answer, the job waits.

Also in this version

  • A typed chat window in the Windows and Mac apps, with the same memory as the voice.
  • Works inside Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI with no setup.
  • PDF and picture tools, video transcripts, and making videos smaller on your computer.
  • Ask it to find, move, rename or tidy your files. A delete goes to the Recycle Bin or Trash, and Munu asks first.
  • Ask from your phone for a file on your computer, and it comes to your phone.
  • Each job has a spending cap, and Settings has starter ideas for your first job.

How jobs and permission cards work

Memory

It remembers, in notes you own

Tell Munu something worth keeping and it writes it down in a folder of plain Markdown notes on your computer. You can open them in any text editor or in Obsidian, change them, or delete them. Munu keeps a log of every change it makes, with the time. Your own notes in that folder stay as you left them.

How the memory works

The folder is named after your assistant. Munu writes only in the violet folders, shown in bold. Everything else stays as you left it.

Privacy

What stays, and what leaves

Munu uses cloud AI models to think, hear and speak, so some things do leave your computer. Here is exactly what.

Stays on your computer

  • While Munu sleeps, the microphone is checked for its name on this computer.
  • The camera is watched live on this computer to track your hands. Nothing from it is recorded or saved.
  • Your notes are plain Markdown files in a folder on your computer.
  • Your keys and sign-in sit in the system keychain (Keychain on a Mac, Credential Manager on Windows).
  • Logs never contain what you said or what Munu answered.

Leaves it, to do the job

  • When it thinks it heard its name, about 1.5 seconds of audio may be sent to a speech service to double-check.
  • During a conversation, your voice goes to Deepgram to become text, through the Munu account service, which counts the seconds and keeps no audio and no text.
  • What you say or type, and the notes, files and screenshots it reads for you, go through OpenRouter to the AI models in your settings (by default from OpenAI and Moonshot AI).
  • When you ask Munu to look at something, one camera picture is sent the same way, for that one question.
  • Web pages it looks up are fetched straight from your computer.

Honest limits

What Munu does not do

  • Using the computer on a Mac. On Windows Munu can look at the screen, click and type when you allow it. On a Mac it only types and presses keys in the app you name.
  • Sending email or messages. It can only make a draft for you to send.
  • Shell commands from the voice assistant itself. Only a coding agent that you start can run commands, and it asks before any step that cannot be undone.
  • Languages other than English.
  • It also needs an internet connection, because the AI models and the voice services are in the cloud.

Questions

Common questions

What is Munu?

Munu is a desktop voice assistant for Windows and Mac, made by Moon Labs. You say its name and ask out loud, and it answers out loud. It keeps notes for you in a folder you own, opens apps and websites, controls music, takes screenshots, runs longer jobs on your computers (you can start them from your phone), and lets you move the pointer and windows with your hands through the webcam.

Which computers does Munu run on?

Munu runs on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or newer), on macOS 15 or newer. There is no Intel Mac build, no Windows ARM build and no Linux version.

How much does Munu cost?

A new account gets a free trial of 3 days or 25 points, whichever ends first, with no card. After that, Munu Pro is $14.99 a month (400 points of AI a month) or $139 a year (350 points a month, about $11.58 a month). Voice and 400 minutes of listening a month are included in both. A top-up is $4.99 for 300 points. You buy Munu Pro in the Munu phone app, through the App Store or Google Play. Prices are US prices, and the store shows your local price with any tax.

Does Munu listen all the time?

While it sleeps, the microphone is checked for its name on your computer. When it thinks it heard its name, about 1.5 seconds of that audio may be sent to double-check. During a conversation, what you say is sent to Deepgram so it can be turned into text. It goes back to sleep by itself after about eight minutes of quiet.

Does the camera record me?

No. For hand gestures the camera is watched live on your computer to find your hands, and nothing from it is recorded or saved. A picture leaves the computer only when you ask Munu to look at something, such as “Munu, what am I holding?”, and then it sends one picture for that one question.

Does Munu work without the internet?

No. The AI models and the voice services are in the cloud, so Munu needs an internet connection to think, hear and speak.
